There comes a time when, while preparing for a fall outing to the movies, it is hard to overlook even a single popcorn container. With the news that CGV is introducing three new popcorn containers featuring the Chiikawa character in 3D form, interest is growing among fans planning theater visits. In this article, focusing on the differences in the three designs and the strap configurations, we will summarize the information released so far along with details that still need verification.
"Meonjakgwi" is the official domestic name for the Japanese character Chiikawa, and the two terms are often used interchangeably. When encountering news about Popcorn Tong, you can reduce confusion by first knowing that they refer to the same character even if the name spelling appears different.
What kind of product is the CGV Meonjakgwi popcorn container?
The newly unveiled popcorn buckets are characterized by reproducing the character's face and body in the form of a three-dimensional figure, rather than using flat printing. Designed to look as if the bucket is being held or worn by the character, they strongly serve as collectible merchandise to actually carry around at the theater. The collection consists of three types, and each product comes with a cross-body strap featuring the character graphic.
How are the three character designs different?
The three types consist of Chiikawa, Garma (Hachiware), and Rabbit (Usagi), with different body, mini popcorn box, and strap colors applied to each character. Even within the same series, the unique image of each character is distinguished by color, making it fun to choose according to your preference.
The Chiikawa popcorn container features a white body with a design that captures rosy cheeks and a gentle expression, while the mini popcorn box is pink and the strap is also matched in a pink tone. It is a combination that will immediately catch the eye of fans who appreciate a gentle impression.
The Hachiware features blue cat ears and a forehead parting point, and the mini popcorn box is blue while the strap is unified in shades of blue. If you prefer vivid colors, this configuration may stand out more.
The Rabbit (Usagi) stands out with its perked-up ears and cute expression. The body is light yellow, the mini popcorn box is yellow, and the strap consists of tones mixed with orange and yellow. It is worth considering if you want the brightest and most vibrant colors among the three characters.
How is the strap configured and used?
All three products come with a custom-colored cross strap printed with character graphics. Thanks to this strap, you can wear the popcorn bucket over your shoulder instead of holding it in your hand, which has the advantage of keeping both hands free while watching a movie.
As previously mentioned, the strap colors match the mini popcorn box for each character, creating a unified look that resembles a single set. This configuration is highly useful not only inside the theater but also as a photo prop for fans looking to take commemorative photos.
However, detailed specifications such as the strap length adjustment method, material, and washability have not yet been officially announced. If you would like to refer to practical usage tips, it is more accurate to check directly at a CGV store or through official announcements after receiving the product.
When can I check the sales price and start date?
As of now, the exact sales price, start date, and availability by store have not been officially confirmed. CGV has stated that this information will be released later through their app and web event page, so we will have to wait a little longer to confirm the specific schedule.
For reference, as an example of similar theater character merchandise, the Yoshi popcorn bucket sold at CGV was available in limited quantities at major branches nationwide, divided into single items and combo sets. However, this is merely a reference example for similar product categories, and it cannot be concluded that the price or composition of this Monjakgwi popcorn bucket is identical.
Summary of things to check before purchasing
Sales are scheduled to take place at major CGV locations nationwide, but stock quantities and timing are highly likely to vary by branch. To avoid missing out on your desired character, the most reliable method at present is to regularly check event announcements on the official CGV app or website.
Also, as limited-quantity character goods often sell out early upon release, it is helpful to check quickly once the exact start date of sales is announced.
